Our Campus

  • Dalton Elementary is located at 600 North Fourth Street, the northeastern division of Uvalde, Texas. Dalton houses pre-kindergarten and kindergarten students on a campus filled with beautiful pecan trees which provide a shade and an abundance of nuts for the ever-present squirrels the students delight in watching. The average yearly student population is about 670. There are 14 per-kindergarten and 15 kindergarten classrooms, with an average student population of 22 per class. Pre-kindergarten teachers work together with a full time assistant.

    The pre-kindergarten curriculum is based on the Texas Pre-K Guidelines and state adopted materials. Teacher directed timelines are also utilized. The kindergarten curriculum is based on the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS), state adopted materials and expertise of the professional on campus. Each grade level consists of a full day instructional program.

    The Dalton staff is composed of one administrator, 29 certified teachers with Early Childhood endorsements and/or bilingual endorsements. All kindergarten teachers have attended the Kindergarten Reading Academy and training for the Identification and Assessment of Gifted and Talented students. Pre-kindergarten teachers have attended the Pre-K Academy training. Both pre-kindergarten and kindergarten teachers have been trained in Cooperative Discipline, Differentiated Instruction, Balanced Literacy and how to intergrade technology in the classrooms. Dalton’s faculty includes two instructional facilitators who assist with curriculum planning to meet the diverse needs of the students as well as the teachers. Dalton’s faculty include one certified physical education teacher with three assistants, part-time librarian, full time counselor, a Kindergarten and Pre-Kindergarten Nurse, and a Preschool Program for Children with Disabilities (PPCD).
